DO GOOD, HAVE FUN
www.freerice.com
FreeRice is a website where users play various educational, multiple-choice games in order to fight
world hunger. For every answer the user answers correctly, 10 grains of rice are donated. The
games include English vocabulary (the game the site began with), multiplication tables, pre-algebra,
chemistry (basic and intermediate), English grammar, basic foreign language vocabulary for English
speakers (French, German, Italian, and Spanish), geography (world capitals and country
identification), and identification of famous artwork.

In exchange for advertisements on the website, various sponsors donate the money necessary to
pay for the rice and other costs to run FreeRice. The donations are distributed by the United
Nations's World Food Programme (WFP), starting with Bangladesh, Cambodia, Bhutan, Uganda, and
Nepal. Since its inception, as of January 23, 2010, FreeRice has donated over 74 billion grains of
rice.  Approximately 20,000 grains of rice provide enough caloric intake to sustain an adult for one
day. Using this calculation, enough rice is donated to feed about 7,000 people daily.

GOD'S ECONOMY IS HERE - A LENTEN BOOK STUDY
What if God has already provided us with everything we need?  What if we are able to live in God's
kingdom and economy whatever the nation or political system we find ourselves in?  What if we can
find more security through God's care for us than we can in our 401(k)?  What if Jesus was serious
when he told his disciples to give to anyone who asks?

These are just some of the questions we will explore as we read, discuss, and experiment with living
in God's economy. Our starting point will be Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove's book *
God's Economy:
Reclaiming the Health and Wealth Gospel
*(copies will be available), but we intend to go far beyond
a book discussion group and really probe the realities of money and God's way of providing for his
disciples. We will meet every Sunday in Lent (starting February 21st) at 10:10 am in the library. Call
Ragan Sutterfield (501.208.7915) or Nathanael Wills (501.614.3093) if you have any questions.

FOOD FOR ALL SUNDAY
A ministry that provides food to working families.  The second Sunday of every month is "Food for All
Sunday."  We need cereal, cereal bars, tuna, peanut butter, peanut butter crackers, saltines, canned
chili or ravioli, condensed milk, macaroni & cheese, single serving fruit and juice, and soup. Forget to
shop? No problem, we’ll take a check!  Just note "Food For All" in the memo line. St. Francis House
picks up the donations and sees that the food gets to the families they serve.

FLOWERS AND THE LENTEN SEASON
St. Michael's will follow the tradition of leaving the alter unadorned during  Lent. That means we will
not have any fresh flowers or greenery until we celebrate Palm Sunday and prepare for Easter.
Please watch the Tip of the Sword and your Sunday Bulletin for more information about Easter
memorials.
